Welcome to the Spirited Union Botanical rum
Highballer of the year competition. 

We’re  in search of the perfect bartender to become the ‘Highballer’ of the Year 2020. During the competition you will be tasked to create the perfect Highball using our  current range of botanical rums. The second and final round you will be challenged to create a brand new botanical rum concept and as a finalist you will have the opportunity to distill your own rum recipe in the Spirited Union Distillery in Amsterdam. The winner will go on to launch Spirited Union’s 2020 Limited Edition Rum.

THE COMPETITION EXPLAINED

  • ROUND 1 - SUBMIT A HIGHBALL RECIPE

    1st of March - 30th of March - Submit a unique highball recipe using any of the Spirited Union Botanical rums by posting a picture of the drink with a bottle of Union on your social media channels.

  • ROUND 2 - A BOTANICAL RUM CONCEPT

    1st of April - 30th of April - You will be challenged to select and evolve the flavour profile of a selection of single origin rums which we’ll send your way from the distillery. Our professional judges will judge your botanical rum concept and matching highball recipe.

  • ROUND 3 - THE FINALS IN AMSTERDAM

    5-6-7th of June - During the finals in Amsterdam you will go around town to source the botanials and man your own copper pot still to create and present a winning botanical rum recipe and highball recipe.

  • LAUNCH YOUR LIMITED EDITION RECIPE

    In the months following, the 2020 Highballer of the Year will be invited back for the distilling and bottling process of their limited-edition rum before it goes on sale throughout Europe.

“The bartender”

Round 2:
“The botanist”

1st of April – 30th of April

Round 3:
“The distiller”

5-6-7th of June

During the finals in Amsterdam you will go around town to source the botanicals and man your own copper pot still to create a winning botanical rum recipe and highball. *Winning recipe will become our next Limited Edition Botanical Rum.

GRAND PRIZE

During the Finals, the Finalists will compete against each other in various challenges including… The highball presentation, distillery sustainability idea and present their final botanical rum product for taste. All of the challenges will be judged according to the criteria disclosed at the event. The judging panel will pick one Grand Prize winner based on the scores.

The winner will earn the title of the Highballer of the Year will see their winning botanical rum recipe released as a limited edition and available for all associated markets. The Grand Prize winner will also be a part of new launches in their country, consulted on new ideas and future distillery plans.
